FIN13 is a financially motivated cyber threat group that has targeted the financial, retail, and hospitality industries in Mexico and Latin America, as early as 2016. FIN13 achieves its objectives by stealing intellectual property, financial data, mergers and acquisition information, or PII.[1][2]
Enterprise ATT&CK only. Any Mobile or ICS rows on the same ATT&CK page are not carried.
MITRE reference G1016
FIN13 has extracted the SAM and SYSTEM registry hives using the reg.exe binary for obtaining password hashes from a compromised machine.5
FIN13 has harvested the NTDS.DIT file and leveraged the Impacket tool on the compromised domain controller to locally decrypt it.6
FIN13 has gathered stolen credentials, sensitive data such as point-of-sale (POS), and ATM data from a compromised network before exfiltration.78
FIN13 has used nslookup and ipconfig for network reconnaissance efforts. FIN13 has also utilized a compromised Symantec Altiris console and LanDesk account to retrieve network information.910
FIN13 has used Ping and tracert for network reconnaissance efforts.11
Standing G1016
Reach is how much of ATT&CK this group touches. Coverage is how well defended each thing it does is, as a median per technique rather than a total — a total would just restate the reach. Each figure is ranked against all 176 ATT&CK groups only where that population actually spreads. Where most of the population shares one value, a percentile would rank the tie instead of the entity, so the raw value is shown and no rank is claimed.
Reach
86th percentile · 86% of 176 ATT&CK groups have this many Enterprise techniques or fewer.
94th percentile · 94% of 176 ATT&CK groups have this many tactics spanned or fewer.
55th percentile · 55% of 176 ATT&CK groups have this many tools and malware or fewer.
89% of the population shares a single value across only 4 distinct values, so a percentile here would rank the tie, not the entity.
Coverage
73rd percentile · 73% of 176 ATT&CK groups have this many detection rules per technique or fewer.
Detection coverage G1016
1837 distinct rules cover the 53 techniques recorded for this group. The 2142 technique-to-rule mappings resolve to 1837 distinct rules, because one rule can cover several techniques. 1295 Sigma · 542 Splunk.
